Poor ol laptop, tired ol me, please help.

Turn on to get black screen. Nothing else; no menus, no errors, no text or colors, just black. LEDs work. Tried hard reset few times. Removed battery. Tried holding to power button for 60 seconds still just black. The fan runs fine. No beep codes until I tried pushing f8 immediately upon restart, then I received 4 beeps pause 5 beeps. Also, another 2 beeps code was given after trying the f10 button upon powering up. All beeps were short. No cursor and no mouse. Caps LED doesn't remain on it turns off after a few moments. I don't have another monitor to hook my computer up to unfortunately. I was able to get to the memory modules but have no clue what the heck to even check for reseating them. I'm not super computer savvy, but like to think I'm not a lost cause either. It was working fine yesterday I go to turn it on today and boom, just black. So, if anyone could please help me with what I can do to fix it, from home preferrably, that would be extremely helpful and I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance. Does the laptop stay on if you just start it normally, (I know that there is no display) or does it turn itself off? (You can turn it off by holding the power button until it starts to shut itself down)

What OS is installed?

According to the specs for your laptop it has a HDMI port so you don't need another computer as a monitor, just connect the laptop to a TV with a HDMI input, using an appropriate HDMI cable. Turn on the TV and switch the TV input to the selected HDMI port, then turn on the laptop and see if there is a display.

If there is no display on the external monitor either then most likely there is a problem with either the GPU (graphics Adapter) or the motherboard.

I have a G62 with the same problem. It is a consumer grade piece of ... work. The display flickers and flashes sometimes, and most of the time it will turn on if I flick the screen closed and open a few times.

I went to the HP support site and there are plenty of people with this problem. The video chip is poorly soldered and sometimes works. You can't get at the connections, but you can run a hot air resoldering tool across the back of the board, and sometimes it will fix it temporarily, sometimes not, and sometimes it just ruins it. Best to replace the whole motherboard.

You definitely need to find another monitor or TV to verify that the computer is running and the video is dead. Otherwise I'd think about how much you paid for it, and how old is it, before you decide to replace the whole motherboard.

If you do want to chuck it and buy another consumer grade PC, two vendors to avoid are Packard and Hewlett. They are actually made by somebody I've never heard of (I have a schematic). The Pro grade machines are made by HP and are fine.
