Analog stick does not register left/right input

Hi iFixIt community.

My question is for analog sticks in general, although I'm working with a third party controller that isn't widely used.

My original problem: my Nyko Kama stick was drifting up and down, causing Link to run forward or backwards when my thumb wasn't on the stick. Not good.

What I did: I opened up the controller, opened the sensors for the analog stick, pulled out the coils, cleaned the sensors with a q tip and rubbing alcohol, replaced the coils and tested it. Good news: no more forward/back drift! Bad news: no left/right input anymore. Whoops.

I'm new to self=repair. Unlike the sensors on something like the DS4, the Kama's sensors were reluctant to open up enough for me to get in there, especially the left/right sensor. My guess is that as I might have pulled the left/right sensor too far back and broken a connection to the rest of the controller. I might test it with a voltmeter to see if there is a connection, but first I need to find one to borrow. Worst case, I'm afraid I need to re-solder the sensor to the board.

My question is: Is there something else I should try or consider based on how analog sticks work before I start using hot things and potentially break it further?

Thanks in advance!
