My cracked screen is pretty bad -- to the point where the suction cup doesn't actually hold well. It seems impossible and I feel as though if I keep prying it will break. It is actually just cheaper for me to send it to Apple and have them repair it for me. Any ideas?

Heat the screen up with a heat gun to loosen the adhesives that are under the screen.
Definitely make sure the bottom screws are out first
Start primarily at the bottom of the display by the home button and give it gradual heat. (5-10 seconds per side of home button)
Then, use a pry tool and start from the bottom by the left side of the home button (facing you like you're texting) and pry one side at a time until you get to the top.

I actually can't start at the bottom of the screen because that is where the glass shattered. I did try and use a heat gun.
Are you trying to do screen only or full assembly?
screen only? I have to grab the home button and the camera too.
I would do a full assembly replacement. You'd need a lot more to do a screen only

you would most likely have to send the whole phone to apple in which case they would repair it and send it back. if you want to get the screen off yourself you may want to use a pryer or a guitar pick to get under the screen and lift it off. i hope that htis helps there are many breakdowns on this site for iphone screen replacements
