Track pad (trackpad) responding weirdly or inconsistently

Track pad works intermittently - it better when I first turn on or wake laptop or when I have a USB mouse plugged in but it's never quite right. Any help?

Has there been any water damage? I feel like the PSOC USB controller on the motherboard could have been damaged.
