Is the Digitizer connection broken

Hi,

My S5 went through the washing machine and the back came off. So I appreciate any single part could be broken, but I thought I'd give it a go repairing it.

After this the screen displays fine but I couldn't get a new rom on it as (at least) the NAND was gone. Got a new main board and it can boot and lock onto a signal. Home keys work but the digitizer doesn't recognise touch input.

Now this could have been broken from the washing, or I I certainly have caused some damage to this when getting the screen off

What I'd appreciate help with is whether the connection on the far right of the digitizer was important, or whether it was just there for stability. All the lines from the chips seem to route through another part.

Also the volume keys aren't working currently. That and the digitizer together seem to suggest a new phone.
