Why can't I use reverse charging and adapters?

I have an early 2015 MacBook and after a year, the laptop would not charge. We brought it to the authorised repair centre in Singapore and they charged us to replace the IO board that controls the charging. After they changed it, the USB-C port would only charge if the USB-C cable is plugged in with the top facing up. In other words, the USB-C cable is not reversible anymore. Futhermore, the adapter which cost $130 no longer works as well. This was reported by the repair guy and they wanted to change the logic board at a cost of $1,000...

I was wondering if there is anyone else there who experienced the same problem and if they've found any solution instead of changing the whole logic board.

The company you took it to hasn't plugged the charging ribbon properly into the board, or properly into the charger port. If this is partially connected, the charger cable will charge one way and not the other, and it usually won't work with accessories.

I had this same issue after repairing a customer's MacBook Retina 12 in February last year (check my asked questions) and figured this out. Take it back to the company to reconnect this.
