What free software would you recommend to use on an external drive

I was creating a boot-up USB for windows 7 install and unfortunately chose my external drive as the target. What, if any at all free software would you recommend to use to recover all that I had in it? my pc recognizes the drive but it just shows it as a windows install.

Sadly the free stuff is limited to a few GB's. You'll need to buy a good utility. I would strongly recommend you still we a known brand and buy it from them directly.

Many sites that offer Free or Trial versions are time bombed or have other nasties that can compromise your system! Very risky now.
