how do you connect the home button to the ribbon cable?

The ribbon should be attached to a metal "button" which is stickies to the backside of the plastic button. The "button" should be sticky and a specific shape which the back of the plastic button has the same shape where the electronics sticks too. No glue was needed when I applied mine. Hopefully the ribbon isn't detached from the other component or else you'll need a new one. Hope my reply helps you.

This is the only way. There are not short cuts....:-)

That doesn't answer the question. That guide is about removing/replacing a home button with a ribbon cable attached. The question is how to connect the home button to the ribbon cable, presuming that the ribbon cable is no longer attached to the home button.
