Why is she clicking?

When I start my 91 accord dx something under my hood clicks. I have transmission issues already, I have 3 out 5 gears and one of them grinds when shifted in to. I am new to the whole car problem thing and I am hearing different things from different people. I am making sure that that click is my tranny not my engine correct.?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@shaybaby can you describe where under the hood the clicking comes from? It would be unusual for a transmission to click while it is in park....

It sounds like it is coming from the transmission but it is hard to tell cuz the engine is slightly over it also so it difficult to explain in the middle but over to the left about 6 inches.

Does your car have a turbocharger or supercharger?

by

No it does not. Basic 91 Honda accord

Hi @shaybaby

Just to clarify. Does it click when the car is stationary or when it it being driven or both?

Does the clicking speed up or slow down as you increase or decrease the revs of the motor?

If it occurs when stationary, select neutral or park and rev the engine slowly up and down to determine if it changes. Ensure that the emergency brake (parking brake, handbrake whatever you know it as) is applied when you do this.

Is it there all the time or does it come and go?

@shaybaby ,babygirl143love , Use the links below to help determine what the noise is in/on your vehicle( 1st link, you click on the items and noise will be played back for various issues). Really if your car has already lost transmission gear usage and grinds, you should seriously consider stop driving/using the car before catastrophic failure, causing a serious accident or leaving you stranded. If not comfortable working on your vehicle have a good shop take a look, diagnose and estimate repair. Good luck.

Is it making that sound while its idling or while you're actually moving because of transmission shouldn't make any noise at all if you're not in gear

After turning it on and letting it run it clicks but it only click quietly sometimes while riding in 4th

@shaybaby I can source this problem a lot easier for you if you send me a recording/video of the noises. Cunnington51@gmail.com

Please do the recording both inside the car and with the hood open at the engine.

@shaybaby

@mayer made a good point. But I also need to hear it run in neutral, and while it's in gear. Then I will most definitely be able to pinpoint the problem. Dealt with a lot of Honda cars over the years.
