Why can't I connect my phone to my mac?

I keep trying to connect my phone to my macbook air computer to transfer files but my computer does not detect the phone. I already tried to enable USB Debugging. But I still am unable to connect the phone to my computer. How do I connect it?

You need to install a program called Android File Transfer.

https://www.android.com/filetransfer/

Mac OS does not allow you to gain access to the internal memory of your phone through normal means without this program.

I already dowloaded Android File Transfer, but I keeps telling me that no device is detected.

When you plug in the phone is there a option in the drag down window that states the the usb is used for charging? If it is, press that and select media transfer
