Rough start with burning smell, need fix.

I have an older Whirlpool dryer and some things about to give. If I try to start a second load within 2 mins of the last one ending I hear it trying to turn but it struggles instead and produces a burning smell. If I wait for it to cool off it usually starts normally, but I can tell it's struggling more day by day. Seems like the start relay or something called the centrifugal switch. I would like to have a plan and maybe a part in hand before I go in for a closer look.

Hi,

What is the model number of your dryer?

The model number is: LER7646EQ1

Its a 3 wire 28 amp type 178-00.

Big success, needed a new motor and had to break the old blower wheel to install it (as expected). It's so quiet and quick to start now. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I'm wondering if the motor is overheating.

Here is a link to all the parts and exploded diagrams of your dryer. Hopefully it is of some help.

I'm considering a new motor, but it could be something simpler, thanks for the diagram. The problem only occurs at start up otherwise no burning smell or strained noises. But something is going to give soon.

I put in an order for a new motor and wheel thanks to Jayeff for the suggestion. I will let you know if this resolves the issue.

Thanks all good.

It was the motor and I had to replace the blower wheel as well because it breaks during the process. So quiet now, and quick to start. The motor didn't seem repairable and needed to be replaced.
