I can't get the machine to do a PRAM reset.

I've followed this firmware unlock many times and have never run into issues. However, this time I'm running into an issue.

I've removed ram and run it

i've added ram and run it

i've changed the hard drive & ram & run it

it's a 2011 i5 13", and i'm not sure why I can't get the machine to do a PRAM reset.

any tips?

dollartripclub start by properly identifying what model Mac you have.

Please describe what you see on the screen. I'm not exactly sure which Firmware lock you are experiencing.

Chosen Solution

A firmware or EFI password prevents modifier keys from working, such as NVRAM reset, SMC reset, safe mode etc.

You cannot reset the firmware lock on a laptop that is newer than 2010 with this method as the firmware is stored in a different way. Take the laptop to apple with your receipt and they'll reset it for you for free.

Otherwise, please stop buying stolen computers.

to assume that I have purchased a stolen computer because it's EFI locked is a little rude. some people simply don't remember to remove those before they sell them, and then it's too late. Most people have no clue what to do with a computer before they sell it.
