LCD Flex cable broken?

Dear all,

I just wanted to repair an iPhone 5s (didn't charge properly) but I didn't managed to open the device smoothly. So the cable of the home button disconnected at itself.

After closing the device again I noticed that I doesn't boot up. I opened it again and saw the the flex cable of the LCD also had been damaged (see photos).

Now my question would be if I can repair this somehow of if I have to buy a LCD unit?

Thanks for answering.

Best wishes

Nils Kober

You need to buy a new display unit. It is the economical way and in most cases the only way to fix this.

Thank you! Although this was not what I hope to hear.

Also please use the iFixit guides next time.

Also home button cable may be ripped and needs replacing.

Note that replacing home button will cause touch ID to not work.

I followed exactly the guide, but they were using the iSlack tool and it looked a lot easier to open it properly without than it is. Do you have any special tips for me? I already thought of putting some tape around the device with some space in order to avoid that the display comes up to much.

By the way, does the little metal piece on the home button connector have any relevant function?

by

Yep. Stops it from getting unplugged when the phone is dropped. (If you are talking charger port ribbon cable assembly side and not the home button cable itself)

The square metal piece on the home button ribbon cable or flex is used to keep the fold in the ribbon cable or avoid repairers from bending it wrong.
