Monster book of monsters. I can't get the book to open.
It should re-set to four strokes down the spine when batteries taken out or re-set button pressed but still can't open it.

Reading all the instructions and the online advice and doing the battery removal, reset button thing, no it doesn’t factory reset to four strokes down. Basically, it appears that over time, the locking mechanism stops working. If you have something worth recovering, it is possible to force the lock with two adults, one pulling on the top and one on the bottom. This doesn’t seem to damage the mechanism but it is still not “resetable”. It is a cool toy but don’t rely on it and don’t ever reset the passcode.

i put my passport, credit card, NI number and birth certificate in it, help!! i can't break it open because i'm anemic so i get really tired, can i stroke it open?
Once the motor packs in it will no longer unlock with the code. I got mine open by removing the top two pins that make up the hinge. You can prise them out with a small screwdriver and pliers. Then slide in a medium size screwdriver to where the locking mechanism is, then twist to force it open.

Hi. I took 1 battery out. Replaced it. Pushed the reset button, did 4 strokes down and it opened.

I encountered a similar problem. It turned out that it was necessary to check the voltage in the batteries. A slight voltage drop prevents the opening mechanism from working.
