HD failure on 8 yr. old MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro that's 8 yrs. old and the TOSHIBA MK3255GSXF 320 HDD2H77 just failed. Finding an identical replace has been difficult. Can I substitute with a different vendor? My backup is Time Machine Capsule, will it have a problem restoring the data? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Almost any 2.5" SATA hard drive will work. I assume it's about a 2009 machine. Here's how to replace it and a selection of drives. Personally I really like the SSHD drives.

Hey @mayer,

Thanks for all your time and effort, took your advise and picked up a SEAGATE SSDH 1TB HYBIRD DRIVE at BEST BUY for $94.99. I installed the unit in 10-15 mins. The only problem was restoring the software, could not get my Macbook Pro to boot up to disk utility program. Was forced to get a flash drive with latest MacOS in order restore 100% off my Time Machine backups. Thank You for all your help, much appreciated!!!

Gerald, I forgot to tell you how to do an internet install with an unformatted new drive. You should have been able to boot your machine from the old drive using it externally with an SATA to USB adapter. Then use the Disk Utility on that drive to format the new drive. You can then do the internet install or go head and down the new OS from the App store Install it that way then boot from the new drive and use Migration Assistant to move your old data and Apps.
