Core Duo 2 to i7 in Late 2009 iMac?

Hi fellow fixers!

I was recently given a late 2009 27" iMac running the Core Duo 2 3.06 chip. I'm wondering about doing an upgrade to the i7 860 Lynnfield chip that came as the top of the line chip in this model. I have the skills to do this, I've already had to pull it apart to get it running (HDD was stuffed).

If I can get my hands on the chip, will the motherboard from the Duo 2 take the i7?

Thanks in advance for the help people!

Cheers

Thanks for the answer. I was hoping to give it a little more oomph for the kids to use but I'll just leave it as it is.

Cheers!
