How to backup data on a removed iPod hard drive?

Hello, I have a broken iPod Video which won't boot up, but it's possible the hard drive can still function. I was wondering what type of external case/adapter should I be looking for if I want to connect said hard drive to a computer?

Also, I own another functioning iPod 3rd Generation 20GB (Model: A1040). Will I be able to remove the hard drive from Video and swap it with the drive in 3rd Gen? I was hoping to use my 3rd Gen iPod as the external case for the extracted drive from Video, is it compatible?

Thank you.

Hi,

there are adapters for the iPod Toshiba and Hitachi hard disks to connect them to a 2.5" or 3.5" ribbon cable. With the hard drive connected this way you copy can all folders in the

Portable Media Devices\IPOD (F:)\iPod_Control\Music

folder to your hard drive.

AFAIK the 3rd Gen. iPod uses a different connector for the hard drive. So this won´t work without another adapter, but i don´t know if there is such an adapter.
