What is the most upgradable used MacBook Pro 15"

I'm looking to get a MacBook Pro 15" and do not like the new model. I was hoping to get some advice about which model is best for overall performance and acceptability of future upgrades.

Many thanks.

2012 model if you want to be able to upgrade RAM and hard drive space. You cannot upgrade the CPU on any model. Avoid older models (especially 2011)

Late 2013-2015 Retina's are good, but you cannot upgrade the RAM, and the SSDs are proprietary.

I agree about the 2012 non-retina machine being the last upgradeable machine and still able to economically repair.
