No boot after getting disc out of optical drive.

I recently got a disc out of a MacBook. I took the computer apart to remove the optical drive and physically removed the disc. After putting the computer back together and trying to power on, the fans spin up, the screen occasionally flashes but no boot. I double checked to make sure all the connectors were seated properly. My client had expressed that he had received kernel panics frequently prior to the disc being stuck. My first thought is some type of hardware issue. Any thoughts and advice would be awesome!

The optical drive that is in it is broken, the scissor arm is stuck. Any other options?
