Touch failure on multiple screens

Hi there.

I have done Three screen replacements on this phone, and i am looking for a repair for its touch screen. The touch screen works fine immediately after repair for roughly 4-6 hours, then begins to fail again. this failure is intermittant, and not always present. As specified, there have been Three. The screens are advertised as "Manufactured to OEM standards," and run around 75, so they are not low end screens.

I am aware there could be failures besides the screen, as far as the connectors, and a Touch Process IC. the connector is physically in pristine condition. If you are offering me a repair, please also link a guide link as well. keep in mind, i do have themicrosolder skills to replace IC's as well as the connectors, so long as the component is not gelled into the board.

I am ever greatful to any answers supplied, and if you happen to find the fix for it, i thank you moreso.

-Regards

Ok, the Broadcom chip is shown here, circled in blue

It's a little tricky to find chips... Here, someone is selling it on eBay. If the digitizer socket isn't the issue, and you have the skills, this could be your answer

Hey there!

With all the displays working fine for a time, it seems unlikely that you've run into four with the same issue in a row. It's more likely a board-level issue, most likely having to do with bad filtration. You might have a faulty capacitor or blown the filtration leading to the digitizer. I'm not sure that this answer is particularly helpful, because repairing that is, at the very least, beyond my knowledge. I would try a new logic board, and see if that resolves the issue. I might also suggest a newdisplay, because the ones you have may well be damaged by the previous board.

Best of luck on your repairs!

Let's see a new one costs $220 on Amazon. So you decide your best path.

A used one runs from $110 to $140:

yeh, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the forum. if you would like to give me any input on how to locate the components needing to be replaced ON the logic board, that would be helpful

by

I understand, but I also have common sense and when the cost of the parts exceeds the cost of a new one, get the new one and sell the parts!

except i have 50 bad boards i can pull free components from

Maybe you should have stated that.

The iPhone 5C is prone to micro-fractures due to the weaker plastic housing. They are very difficult to see, usually requiring ~30X magnification. You could replace one IC and then have other latent problems down the line. Of course, it could just be a regular Cumulus type replacement too.

This is not a trivialrepair and if you haven't done one before, be prepared to possibly having an unusable phone. Worst case, it's a practice session, best case you solve your propblem.

As @mayer points out, given the current resale value of a 5C, it is not always worth repairing. I can get a used 5C/16GB for $75 CAD while I would charge between $100-150 CAD to do the repair.

However, in some parts of the world, repairing is the only option.

You have to decide what is best for you.
