losing power while plugged in

My I phone 5c is losing power while it is plugged in and not in use. Any idea why? Can a diagnostic be run or does the battery need to be replaced? thanks

I would suspect that you either have a defective battery or there is a problem with your charging circuit. Buy a battery from a reputable supplier, like iFixit. That is the simplest thing to try.

There may also be a problem with the charge port. Check to see if there is any debris inside the port and that the Lightning cables connects securely. While you're at it, try different Lightning cables and charge cubes if you have any.

If everything looks okay and a new battery doesn't solve your problem, some would say try another new battery ;>). Ideally, you need to use known-good parts as there are many dodgy parts out there.

Ultimately, if everything checks out okay, then there is probably a problem with your charging circuit.
