Half of screen works, other half is black

I am working on a iPhone 5 SE that was lost in the woods and got a little wet. The original screen that was on it no longer works so I tried a different screen and when you turn the phone on the left hand side is just black and the right works fine. I had a cracked 5s screen at the shop and connected it. It had a bad LCD but from what I could tell the screen worked fine on that.

I went through and cleaned thr logic board and still no luck. They got the phone and put it in rice and turned it on before they brought me it. Is there a chance they shorted something out?

Yeah, but the display works for both of those phones. Also he said he tried a different display, and it worked. He also said he cleaned it. Im hoping with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Sounds like it needs a new ultrasonic bath, and a new display.

Yes OP, it is likely something could have been shorted out, if they connected power to it, while moisture was hanging out in the phone

Yes I cleaned it with 99% isopropyl alcohol. I have actually tried a total of 3 different displays, but from what I can tell a display with a cracked screen and the LCD is broke, it seems to be working fine on. It looks as if both sides of the screen work.

I will give it ultrasonic bath and maybe purchase a more original screen for the phone. They used rice to get the moisture out but I have always been told rice doesn't do a thing. They then kept the phone on for days so I got a weird feeling something happend. I will put it in the ultrasonic cleaner and see what happens

I have an ultrasonic cleaner, but I haven't used it much yet. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what type of solution I should use in it. I know there is Branson IC but I really don't want to spend $90 on a bottle just yet. Anything else? I have hear scrubbing bubbles and acetone but I really have a hard time beleaving that will do anything!

I would avoid volatile chemicals like IPA and Acetone in an ultrasonic bath. When you heat them at ~65C and vigorously shake them. bad things can happen.

Are the three screens that don't work from the same supplier? You may have a bad batch of screens. Can you test them on a nother device to be certain if they are good?

Do not put those chemicals in there! I use distilled water and bransonic electronics cleaner in my ultrasonic bath. Yes, the chemicals are expensive, however, you use very little for each batch, and each batch should clean phones for months, before you need to make a new one. Equaling lots of profit, you'll make your money back, after you fix one phone. Check out Louis Rossmans video about it. Yeah, it's possible you have a bad batch of displays, it's happened to me before. These companies sell you $@$* parts, then don't do anything to help you

Are you asking about an iPhone 5S or an iPhone SE. From a logic board perspective, there is a huge difference.

Assuming a 5S, there is one backlight anode and two backlight cathodes. I would check those circuits first. FL24 is the anode (which obviously works) and FL25 & FL26 are the cathodes. One of those, or the associated capcacitors, has probably failed. If they look good, then check the rest of the backlight circuit.

The iPhone SE has two drive circuits (coil & diode) for the anode.

Thank you so much for helping me! Sorry it is a SE, but when I typed it in it there wasn't an option for it. So I will check these circuits to see if they are an issue! I will message back with the results and maybe you can give me a hand! Thank you so much again Minho!
