my ipod wont come out of recovery mode

8 GB: ipod touch first gen still not working Ok so i did what u told me to do and that was to hold the home button and it said ipod in recovery mode must restore then i tried restoring it and it said unknown problem occcured in 1601. do u have any suggestions.

Error 1601 refers to an issue with the iTunes software on your computer. See this Apple Knowledge Base article for details and recommended solution:

Also, if you are on a Windows machine, have you changed/added/upgraded any antivirus programs? They can interfere with communication between the iPod and iTunes. Try to disable any auto-scan features, at least temporarily.

I am getting this also. And one of the forums says to make sure there are no other USB devices plugged in. I wonder if this includes my USB mouse?

Another thing I read that can cause the error is a dead battery and I certainly hope charging still works when restore doesn't.

happened to my buddy i helped him solve it by...

first updating his itunes.

secondly if ur using windows xp go to control pannel go to apple moblie device support and repair it worked for me.

shut down your firewall for a few minutes also any other security that you may have this will work I have been trying for hours I read this is tried it and it works

I have the same problem, My Ipod is brand new, Charged turned on and receieved a message to update and then it crash and now in recovery mode with a error of (1) Any help This is for 1st generation. Had in storage for grandchild. Thanks

I’ve learned that this can happen if your iTunes version is too high because after a certain version it won’t let you restore certain devices
