It is unlikely that a new screen, in and of itself, would cause this problem. However, have you tried putting back the old screen to see if the problem is persistent?
You may have forgotten something along the way when you replaced the screen. Go back through this guide to retrace your steps. Be certain to disconnect the battery before disconnecting anything else (and connect it back as the last step before closing your device). Also, keep track of your screws to insure that you don't put a long one where a short one should go.
EDIT:
Then if you are confident you did everything correctly then you may have a defective battery or you damaged the charging circuit during your repair (or by using cheap chargers and Lightning cables). The simplest thing to try first is a new, and ideally, known-good battery.
You should post your comments on the answer so that it is easier to follow and also so that the answerer gets a notification. Otherwise, you may wait a long time before you get an response.

I'm thinking he didn't disconnect the battery, when initially doing the repair, and fried the Lightning dock

Hi, yes i retraced all of the steps one by one. The screen turned on when i finished. But when i would plug it in the charger it would not charge at all. Even on my computer, it would not recognize it.
