Difference between 2011 screen assembly, and 2012?

Hi!

Is there any real difference between the 13' 2011 and the 13' 2012 Screen Assembly?

Are they compatible with eachother?

Yes, they are different!

Apple altered the design enough that they are not interchangeable.

But what i've understood is that the only difference is the place of the Camera cable connection?

Antenna and LCD cable connections are the same?

by

Yes, but its more than that the iSight camera is updated in the '12 model and if I remember correctly the cable won't reach either.

Here's the P/N's

661-6056 - MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011) - FaceTime camera (640 × 480)

661-6630 - MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) - 720p FaceTime HD

The 2011 will work on the 2010 but not the 2012.

by

@Dan why are you like this?

What gives you the imaginary power to state facts, that are not true?

As posted multiple times here, they ARE compatible.

And the position of the Cables is EXACTLY in the same spot.

If you don't believe me, google the IO board layout of 2010/2011 and 2012 machines. The position of the camera connector is the same.

Furthermore, the official iFixit Parts look IDENTICAL, including all cables/connectors.

So what I read from this, is the camera is worse.

And even if the camera is substantially worse (which it will be, since the image processing is not programmed for the older camera), the screen will work - including Wifi, Camera and everything else:

So if somebody is asking the question: Can I put a 2011 (/2010) screen on a 2012 MacBook Air, the answer is YES. Just expect noticeably worse image of the build in webcam.

This is still a far cry from the NO, that for some reason is still shown as "Chosen Solution". Would be fair to correct this and not mislead ppl.

@nebukadv - They are not technically the same!

661-6056 - MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011) - FaceTime camera (640 × 480)

661-6630 - MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) - 720p FaceTime HD

I used a 2010 lid assembly (from a dead Macbook I own) on a 2012 one recently which I own, since the screen was damaged but it was badly scratched up and had backlight marks too. I assume a 2011 would work in a 2012 if a 2010 does.

Here are a few links to back this up, with sellers saying they will work from 2010-2012;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Macbook-Air-A1...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apple-MacBook-...

2010-2012 lid assemblies are all compatible with each other, then the 2013-2015 are compatible with each other.

Just did the repair.

Screen, Wifi and Camera all work fully fine!

They ARE Compatible!

So The 2010 and 2011 displays or compatible with a 2012 macbook as long as they are the same size?

by

Yes, 2010-2012 are cross compatible as long as they are the same size
