Can I swap out OS X10.6 & put in 10.4 again?

I would prefer to use 10.4, as I have more software for it. Someone put in 10.6 before I bought it. It's a '06, 2ghz, 1mb, 120gb drive.

And, how do stop the chime on start-up ?!

Thanks, Paul

Insert your 10.4 system installation disk and start up by holding down the "C" key. You can then go to the second screen pull down menu and reformat the drive then reinstall the system or you may be able to just achive and install the system.

Regarding your second question: Sometimes you can stop the startup chime by muting the computer before you restart. But I don't think this works 100% of the time, and I haven't investigated it fully.

I think he will have to format the drive first. +

You may be able to get a copy of the original restore discs from Apple for a small fee, or buy some on eBay. You will have to find the specific discs that came with that model of Mac Mini -- any other copy of Mac OS X 10.4 (retail upgrade, or came with another system) will fail to install.

Why do you need to downgrade? What software do you have that will run on 10.4 but will not run on 10.6?

Since the original OS was 10.4 I think your suggestion of contacting Apple is the correct one. That's if he does not have his system disk. +
