Ipad mini keeps freezing

I don't have a cracked screen but out of no where it let me slide but only if it was from the time area where it shows the time but when I go to type in my password it just freezes and it won't type in

Options

Press and hold the power and home button until the Apple logo shows. When it shows, release both keys.
