Could my new iPod Classic battery be bad?

I have an iPod Classic PC293LL with 2.0.5 MAC firmware. I just put a new battery in it I bought from here (Order#: 1275719) as the old one would not hold a charge for a day. After i got it installed, it seemed to work for a bit (played for 3 hours without a recharge), but went dead overnight. I re-charged it again and it went dead sitting on my desk overnight. Just finished a 15 hr charge and letting it sit again.

I also contacted apple's forum directly. They suggested it might be a bad replacement battery. Thoughts?

Are there some settings i need to turn off? I can hold it up to my ear and don't hear anything.

How should I proceed?
