Duel Boot issues. Windows 10=ok, OSX=not ok

Not really sure how to ask this but yesterday I was working with Logic Pro doing music. It kept giving an error so I closed the program. Did a disc cleanup with junk files and whatnot. I believe I did a force restart after and since then, OSX won't load past the apple logo and the loading bar. I got Windows 10 too boot all the way up till where I can see the desktop so that I could restart the computer from the start menu.

The loading bar with the apple logo is completely full, the fans and stuff feels and sounds like they're working but nothing else. I let it sit like this last night for at least 6 hours and still nothing. I'm nowhere near advanced with macs to try something I'm not comfortable with without seeking professional help. And speaking of, I tried a series of commands to fix the PRAM, safe mode, safe with verbose, single user mode and so on with no luck.

No matter what happens, I get to the startup screen with the apple logo and loading screen. Recently my laptop had kind of a nasty fall that created a dent on the side that I'm thinking might have affected the hard drive but I'm not sure.

So my question is, can you tell me what my problem may be? (OSX 10.11.1)

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

You'll need to either use an external bootable drive (OS-X) or find a friend with a Mac which you can then boot up your system under Target Mode to run Disk Utilities to fix & test your drive. But, before you do they you may want to copy off anything important just in case. Its possible the drive is failed (or just about to)

I would also review how much free space you have on your system drive. If you don't have much space you should free up as much as you can. You also likely have a highly fragmented drive if you are still using a HD Vs a SSD here. You should run a defrag program like this one: Drive Genius and you may want to also clear out the old cache & log filed using a tool like this: Disk Doctor. But you'll need to wait until you can boot up under the drive for this to work.

Lastly, you should think about upgrading the RAM to 16 GB if you are working on large pieces and also think about swapping out your HD for a sizable SSD (1 or 2 TB). Music & video production benefits having lots of RAM & storage.
