Is thermal grease/paste also electrically conductive? I've seen phone line repairmen squeeze a dollop of this clear grease into a phone jack before they plug a RJ11 in and they tell me that it's an electrically-conductive grease that prevents moisture from interfering with the connection but conducts electricity fine.
Is this a good question?

It depends on what is in the grease compound.

Whereas this one is non electrically conductive but has high thermal conductivity.

Why is the carbon based one not conductive? Carbon is very conductive.

It may be that it is some sort of carbon "compound" which can be non conductive.
If you look up "is carbon conductive" you'll find answers that describe the conditions where it can be and then where it isn't.
So presumably they're using a form of carbon compound the properties of which are good thermal transfer and poor electrical conductivity.
They do state that it is "carbon based" not just pure carbon.

I worked for the phone company.... It is not electrically conductive... otherwise you'd creat a short...it is simply for protection from water and moisturizer

Ok. That makes sense. But if that's the case, how do the metal contacts on the RJ11 connect with the pins in the jack so there's a good electrical connection with the insulated grease in the way? After all, it's not as if they are very discerning when they squeeze the dollop of grease into the jack in the wall?
