Does a replacement part's model no. have to match exactly?

I have to replace a video cable in my laptop, and I'm trying to find the part. Matching my original part's model number seems a little tricky, as this particular part seems to have 6-10 different model numbers available. All these parts seem to look the same, and all the vendors say they work for any laptop in the particular laptop series, yet have a slightly different model number (ex. ABC 123.456 vs. ABC 123.457 vs. ABC 123.567). Does it matter at all if I get one with a slightly different model number, or could it risk not functioning properly if it doesn't match exactly?

In this case, it shouldn't matter. As long as it has the same screw holes, and the same physical connection it should be fine. Just look at the contacts, and buy from a good seller
