Trackpad stopped working, the lowermost keys (yxcvb.) are unresponsi

Hi there!

As stated in the headline, all of a sudden, my trackpad stopped working. Prior to that, my keyboard started to act strangely. The buttons in the lowermost line became not very responsive.

The macbook was always handled with care. It was only used at home, the battery has only 75 charging cycles. No water damage or similar.

I heard about the swollen battery problem, so I opened the bottom cover, but that did not change a thing.

The guy at the genius bar would change the top cover (~350€).

Is there anything I could check?

Chosen Solution

Likely liquid damage to the keyboard and trackpad cable (or trackpad).

Open and check the logic board for corrosion (clean if there is). You will need to remove the battery to access the trackpad and other end of cable, don't puncture it.

You can buy a test keyboard and also trackpad & cable (usually the trackpads come with the cable), and plug this in before removing the battery, to ensure it resolves both your issues. If the issues aren't resolved with the above test parts, it will be logic board related.

Hey Reece, thanks a lot for your fast answer!

Due to the fact, that both devices stopped working properly, I have to admit, that liquid damage seems very likely. But I am pretty sure, that no liquid came near my computer.

I could not see any corrosion at the logic board. I also checked the connectors at the logic board, nothing. So I will buy a new trackpad and try it.
