My iPhone doesn't look like the one in the teardown video. What's up?

Ok so I did a screen replacement and battery replacement on Iphone 3s. Everything went exactly as shown in the online videos. My current Iphone (an unlocked AT&T Iphone 5 model A1428) has battery "issues" so I ordered a replacement battery from Ifixit. It has arrived and the part number is correct for an Iphone 5.

So, I open the phone and it looks nothing like the view in the video. It has a "solid Cover" and I don't see the battery. I am afraid to proceed further until I find out what is going on.

Has anybody had this "problem"?

Did they (Apple) make a change after a Certain Serial Number?

Did I do something wrong?

The last two repairs to my old Iphone 3s were easy, so That's why I am questioning this.

I can't afford a new Iphone right now so it's really important that I get this battery changed out.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Update (11/30/2016)

Here is a picture of what I found in my Iphone 5 when I opened it.

It is different than what is shown in the Video.

What am I doing wrong???

I found a source for LOCA Glue and will try that. As that looks like what was there before.

My unit is about 4 years old according to the info I get from the "about" info. So maybe It's just getting "more mature". Anyway I was able to pry out the "chassis" part so I could replace the battery. I have it "Scotch Taped" until the glue and 2mm Foam Tape get here.

Thanks for all who participated with helpful comments.

OBTW IMHO this appears to a fairly common thing with the Iphone 5 there are several posts around the web about the display coming loose in this manner. I had to carefully work the metal chassis part out (as you would normally do with a pry tool) and then I could get to all the internals. I wonder if the problem started at the Apple store when they changed the battery under the recall. ????

Can you attach picture?

All of the iPhone 5 models look the same and the below link should function for them;

How to replace your iPhone 5 battery

If it doesn't match this you could have a counterfeit phone.

I had the same problem with an iPhone 6s I was repairing for a customer, the phone ended up being counterfeit, she got her money back from the person she bought it from so not all hope Is lost

I bought it at an Apple store and It was repaired under the battery recall at the apple store so I really doubt that it is counterfeit. However, I am attempting to get a good shot to show you what I see. I will post as soon as I am Able.

It is obviously out of warranty and I just don't want to replace now. The only problem is the battery.

And Thank You for your help so far. I really appreciate it!

take out the pentalobe screws at the bottom. you pried at the screen, not the frame. make sure the plastic frame comes out too. after glue the glass back to the frame or get a new screen, i think you killed your old one anyway.

OK,

I think that I have figured out what happened to my Iphone. The glue holding the display to the front panel "let Loose" when I pulled up with the suction cup. The phone still works so I think I just need to reglue the front display.

Does anybody know what kind of adhesive I need to use to reglue the display to the front assembly?

And, where can I get some?

I have been looking around on the web and I found out that the separation due to the glue "letting go" is a fairly common problem with the Iphone 5. I am trying to find a suitable glue. Apple uses a proprietary process and glue to do this so I may be "hosed".

I use super glue, not the best idea but it works well :)
