Can I use a M2 SSD with it?

Or is it locked to Apples own flash SSD's? Because I really want to get a 512 GB in it, but can't if it uses a different socket. Is there some sort of Apple flash to M2 adapter out there?

I've not heard of anyone flashing these cards to make them successfully work in Macs.

Only genuine Apple and OWC make sticks that will work.

Yes, as I said, for SOME Macs. They seem to have stopped at the 2013 models.
