New SSD installed, need to install Mac OS

I have a 2009 mac mini, I replaced the dead hard drive with a new SSD, I have the original disks that came with the mac mini, but when I inserted the disk, I only get the flashing folder with the question mark.

what should i get the mini to recognize the recovery disk?

I tried the boot up with the Command+d, command =r, and the command+option+d and nothing happens.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hello,

With the mac mini off keep option/alt key pressed and turn the computer on and keep the key pressed until you see the partition or cd drive option to chose. Try and see if you can chose to boot from cd like that.

I'm having the same problem, t'm trying to do a clean re-install. A message says it's taking about 17 minutes, then I get no packages were eligible-to install

Have the disk ready to insert. Press the power on button and immediately hold down the "C" key on start up. Go to the second page of the installation and the pull down menu will appear. Go to Disk Utilities and format the new drive GUID & Mac OS Extended. Now you can install the system.

Also check the specs on your new SSD drive to see if it backward compatible to SATA I, 1.5 GHz/s, many are not.
