N64 Turns on but no sound or picture

I've had this N64 for about 20 years now, and I pulled it out of storage three days ago, hooked it up to my TV, put in a cartridge, and it worked just fine. I recently bought a new controller off of Amazon (made by Cirka) and some more games. I hooked the N64 back up to my TV today, plugged in my original Nintendo brand controller and the new Cirka controller, turned it on, but no picture or sound. The red light turns on but no signal on my TV. I have tried hooking it up to other TVs around my house as well.. but nothing. I originally thought the AV cable was the problem, but it looks fine. Any suggestions?

Hi there,

Check to see that the connectors of the game cartridges and slot are clear of rust/dust and any other non-nintendo nastiness. If it appears all fine then I would suggest testing multiple games. If its only a select few games that aren't working follow this guide to clean them out.

Disassembling Nintendo 64 Cartridge

When mine doesn't work the first time flicking the console on and off a few times generally fixes the issue. Also check that the AV connectors aren't dirty or grimy. If so give them a clean. You can also find replacement AV cables on Ebay, it might be worth trying another one.

Another issue I've come across, if you're using a newer TV you may have to change your TV picture settings from standard to game or dynamic.

Lastly, make sure its plugged in correctly and the TV is on the correct channel/input. Its simple but it is surprisingly common.

I hope these help.

I purchased a new AV cable on Amazon, removed the jumper pak then put it back in, turned the console on/off a couple times and it's working again! Thanks
