How do I disable Popular Highlights in Amazon Kindle for PC?

Amazon Kindle for PC shows highlights, but I don't want them; they're distracting. How do I disable them?

I'm going to answer my own question because I didn't find the answer anywhere online.

In the Kindle for PC app:

Go to Tools > Options > Annotations > Uncheck Popular Highlights
