My WD MyBook Studio will not turn on when plugged in, why?

My Western Digital MyBook Studio was working fine. The next day it was turning on but not being recognized by my MacBook pro with the micro usb or firewire. Then today while plugged in the blue light wont turn on or hear the disc spinning/running. Why is this happening?

Have you tried plugging this unit into another machine? We need to determine if it's the drive or the Mac that is faulty.

It's not the Mac, that works fine. The power cord works on other devices. The external hard drive isn't turning on when plugged in.

Does the WD Studio have its own power source or does it power via USB/FireWire?

Have you tested another outlet if it is self-powered? Have you tested it in a separate machine?
