stopped showing any light or pictures and no sound!

I've had 46" Sony Bravia TV set since August, 2013 and I guess by now it should be out of warranty. Suddenly, in September of this year, 2016, while in operation it stopped showing any light or pictures and no sound! Now, when you switch it on, only the logo SONY comes on. It's model number is: KDL 46BX450. Any idea of what could be wrong and what I possibly can do?

I've heard nothing...

@dbankys you did not hear anything since your question was posted as an answer to an older question. Anyhow, what have you checked thus far? Have you checked your boards? do you have the TV apart?

by

@dbankys after the screen turn black on you, can you use a flashlight and angle the beam against the screen of your TV? Can you make out anything on the screen? Have you checked any boards yet?

Hi,

Since you are getting the logo it indicates that the power and video circuits are mostly functioning.

Try reinstalling the firmware for the TV. It may be that it has been corrupted.

Here is a link that details how to update the firmware for your model TV. It may be that you already have this version of the firmware and hopefully you will be able to re-install it if it is. With some brands of TV they do not allow for the reinstallation of the same firmware only updates.

Thanks for the information unfortunately, the SONY Logo only shows at an instant on powering on and the TV screen goes black. Thereafter, the screen doesn't show any light and so I cannot adjust or use the remotes control.

Again, what could be wrong and what can I possibly do??

Thanks, again

Hi @dbankys

Did you try to install the firmware and still the same result?

If you didn't try I suggest that you do try to install (update) the firmware as described in the link in my answer above. All you need to do is have the firmware file loaded in the root directory of a a USB stick, insert the USB into the TV and turn it on using the remote. After that it is all automatic. The info in the link describes what should happen.

I realize that you cannot perform the 1st part of the sequence i.e. checking what version you have etc BUT I'm suspecting that is because the firmware is corrupt.

If your TV does as you say, turns on , logo then nothing BUT does not turn off or the power light don't blink etc but seems to stall then I suggest that you try the firmware install. If it doesn't proceed to load as per the description then you are no worse off than before you started.

Jayeff,

Thanks for your insight and willingness to help.

I was pre-occupied during the holidays and because I was discouraged about Sony products I abandoned the tv. I grew up (my family had Betamax vcd & tv) to believe it's a good brand but recent feelers now suggest that it may not be as reliable. Unfortunately, I have Sony tv, blue ray and sound systems. As a matter of fact I gave out my Toshiba systems except my laptops thinking I should stick to Sony.

I finally got round to downloading the link on a stick over the weekend and stuck it in the tv as you said but no change. I might be missing something, what do you mean by "have the firmware file loaded in the root directory of a USB stick". When I later discovered it was in a zip, I did the extraction, deleted the empty zip plugged it into the tv again and switched on the power with the remote.

I repeated this action a few times & got no response from the tv other than the initial light, SONY logo and black screen.

What should I do next?

Hi,

If you have the individual sony_fw_2012_2007_usf.pkg file which you extracted from the .zip file loaded into the root directory of the USB drive as per Step 5 at the bottom of the link I posted, (not under a sub folder in the drive) and it doesn't work I'm afraid that is all that you can try regarding firmware updates.

If you didn't do it this way try it again as per Step.5
