Why is my HTC deisre 625 bugging out?

I was at a friends house and picked up my HTC desire 625 (with a broken screen - the incident that caused the broken screen happened a few months ago) and when I picked it up I noticed that the back was wet, but not THAT wet, so I wiped it off and went about my business. When I turned it on, a third of the top of my screen was black and everything was blurry and there were lines moving and stuff. Along with this, there was black dots (medium sized and not that many) that look kind of splattered inside the phone. I turned it on few times to show my friend and her mother. Also two other times to check the time because the time was still functional. I don't know if turning it on made it worse, but I put it into rice the rest of that night, and the next day (today). I turned it on one more time (around 6:00) to see if it's gotten any better and it seemed kind of worse. Was this the cause of water or could it be something else? Is there somewhere I can take it to get it fixed? Can i fix it myself? Will any information on my phone be lost in the process of fixing it? I would really appreciate your help, I'm grateful for any answer you can provide. Thank you.

Hi,

As you know water and electronics and electricity are not a good mix.

The water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone's operating design and could damage the components.

Rice is good to eat but does nothing to fix the problems caused by corrosion.

First do not turn on your phone and then you need to with the phone turned off, remove the battery as soon as possible from the phone to minimize further damage.''

In your case however I suggest that, if you can, you do a backup of the phone as soon as possible in case it fails completely and it becomes beyond recovery. It may be already too late.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ to remove all traces of corrosion and water. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount

Electronics Water Damage

You may have to replace the battery as it is very hard to recover a battery from water damage.

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional phone repair service and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later .
