Turning off wifi following android wear installation

Hi, could someone possibly help me. Since the last S5 update at the end of Oct my phone is having problems with the android wear app. If the app is installed the WiFi on the phone keeps turning on and off (so constant battery drain in non wifi areas) but when the app is uninstalled it returns to normal.

Google have advised me to go to Samsung, when I go to my local Samsung store either they are having network issues or staff off sick.

Anybody else experienced this and/or can offer a suggestion to remedy?

Hi,

Just wondering if you have updated the Android Wear app on your device to the latest version?

According to this link for Android Wear app (is this the one that you are using?) it was updated on 14/11/2016, scroll down to see what the current version is. Perhaps its' latest update has overcome the problems that you are experiencing.

Update (11/20/2016)

Hi,

Have you got another Android phone that you could try it with? Preferably not a Samsung, as they may have introduced the same problem into the software of their other models etc. (if it is them that are causing the problem).

This may be one way to prove whether the problem lies with Samsung or the app. If it is also faulty on a different phone brand then I suggest that you get back onto Google and advise them of this and suggest that they have a problem.

Hi, yes I've tried this version but thanks for the idea. I've also tried with or without memory card but alas nothing working. The problem occurred when I last updated Wear and when Samsung released their latest patch (around end of Oct)

He there,

If got the same issue with my S5 and the Android Wear app version 2.0.0.138705214.gms. It's quite frustrating that the app disrupts the wifi connection of my phone.

Any idea how to solve?

Regards,

Johan

Sorry - can't help, but I've got exactly the same problem... I've got 2 Samsung S5 Mini's. The I had Andorid Wear on one, but not the other and last week I noticed the WIFI was off. I flattened the phone and factory reset it... all the apps went back on and WIFI worked... added Wear last and WIFI stopped. Uninstalled and WIFI worked fine again. Installed Wear on the second phone and all appeared well for about 24 hours and then it stopped... Still not 100% where the bug sits. Is it worth posting comments in the Wear review section? Do you reckon anyone from Google ever reads them...? Makes the watch unusable.

I've since discovered that disabling of WiFi-Scanning in "Location -> High Accuracy -> WiFi Scanning" solves the issue immediately, albiet it is a temporary fix. Further investigation has identified that the problem also lies with a compatability issue between android wear and google play services (also updated around the same time). Google are aware and are 'apparently ' looking for a permanent solution.
