"Dead zone" on touch screen?

I got a Nintendo 2DS second hand. It all works, except for one debilitating issue that renders a lot of things impossible.

On the right side of the touch screen, near the vertical middle, there appears to be a deadzone. Touching this area sends the registered tap to the left. Outside that zone, touching is inaccurate and sends input to the left. The left side of the touch screen works fine.

I tried to draw these lines on Game Notes as straight as possible.

Before going as far as to replace the screen, is there any other potential solutions I could try?

I've tried:

- cleaning out underneath the edges of the screen w/paper

- recalibrating (clears calibration, issue remains)

- reformatting (as I have nothing really to lose)

(And yes, before anybody asks, I have learned my lesson about buying consoles second-hand.)

Sounds like a digitiser issue, if you have tried calibrating and cleaning this. Only way to know for sure is to order and try one, they are not that expensive. Guide is below, but is for the LCD screen, so you will need to remove the touch screen after the last step.
