How to flip up home button ribbon cable retaining flap

When putting a new home button flex cable in, do i need to pry up the retaining flap that connects the flex cable or do i just slide it in. im afraid the snap the plastic

Yes, you need to pry it up with your fingernail or a plastic opening tool, as described here. Be gentle. After you pry it up, push the cable in, then push it back down like it was when you started.

my retainer doesn't hold the cable back..is that normal? i can pull out the thin home button cable, while the retainer flap is down
