Can I swap the power and camera buttons?

My power button is broken on an Asus Transformer T100TAF. Is there a way to swap the power and camera buttons, so I could use thr camera button to power on?

Hi Duane,

While the camera and power buttons themselves are somewhat physically similar on the outside, they differ inside the device. Specifically, the cable that is attached to the power button differs from that of the camera button. So, if you could get the camera button to fit in place to work as the power button, it is unlikely the ribbon cable attached to the camera button will be able to accurately communicate with the device to power it on, due to a software error.

However, your power button may not be completely broken. On these devices, it is common for the piece of plastic that makes contact with the power switch inside the device to break off due to wear. This causes the device to be unresponsive to the power button. So, you can take off the plastic backing of the tablet by inserting a small plastic spudger between the plastic backing and the screen and sliding it around the perimeter of the device, which releases the device's clips. Then, you can see if there is a missing plastic clip where the power button presses in. If there is, you can fill this empty space between the power button and its connection to the inside of the device with a few layers of tape, which should reconnect the power button to the device when it is depressed.
