Adhesive Strips Replacement - Removing old adhesive issue

I installed an SSD on this model about a month ago. The top right corner of the screen started to pull away from the adhesive for some reason so I am redoing the adhesive strips but I'm having a hard time getting all of the adhesive residue off this time. Do the strips 'need' to be put on completely clean plastic/glass to work effectively or is it ok if some glue residue is left on?

I like to completely clean them with no reside. Use some Goo-Gone on a paper towel to get the tough stuff off.

I usually use goo gone for sticky stuff, but wasn't sure if that would be ok on a computer. Thanks!
