One Long Screw, Two Short Screws?

Why do I not have the three long screws when I take the backplate off for a Hard Drive install.

I clearly have all short screws, but where the manual indicates there should be three long screws I have 1 in the right corner (with lid opening, facing me).

Why are there two short screws in place of the long ones.

I've worked on this type of machine. When it's turned over the short screw goes in the upper left hand corner. The three other upper screws are long. If you don't have them, then go back to the last guy that worked on it and get them.

It's possible that the diagram is simply incorrect and/or they made a subtle change in the process that they haven't noted in the documentation.

If you're really interested in testing this, try (gently! do not force it!) to screw your one long screw into the middle two holes.

If you are able to do that successfully, then someone made a mistake at the factory when assembling your machine, and if you call Apple up I'm sure they'd be happy to send you the correct screws for free.

If the screw pokes out, then they changed the design and the short screws are correct. (Maybe you should call Apple anyway, and tell them to update their diagram!)

In any case -- as long as the screws go in far enough that they don't fall out, I don't think you need to worry about them.
