can this be repaired by me at home,with your help or does it require a solder at a computer shop or is my g4 destined for the bin?

You can re-solder the socket back to the logic board. You can do the soldering yourself, or if you don't feel comfortable doing the soldering, then you can take it to a local repair shop and they may be able to do solder it for you.
