Whenever I go to power on my computer, I can hear the fan spinning, the screen lights up for a few seconds, and then my computer shuts down again. What's going on?

Your computer may be unable to boot due to an error with its hard drive. To resolve this issue, you will need to buy a Windows rescue DVD for the version of Windows that you have on your computer. You can find inexpensive Windows DVDs at Walmart or on Amazon or other retail websites. Insert the DVD into your computer, start it, and follow the DVD’s onscreen instructions.

If your computer fails to boot after you have run the DVD, or if your computer will not boot after insertion of the DVD, then you may need to replace your hard drive.

If your computer has an issue booting up, it is most likely an issue with the hard drive. To fix this problem simply buy a Windows rescue DVD for the Windows version your computer uses. These rescue DVDs can be bought for less than $5 at any store that sells electronics or at online stores such as Amazon or eBay.

Once you have purchased the rescue DVD place it in the disk drive of your computer and turn it on. Then carefully read and follow the instructions on screen.

If the rescue DVD does not fix the issue or your computer still won't boot, then the next step is to replace your hard drive.
