Why is my computer overheating?

My computer is overheating when I use it for a long period of time. The fan is also making a whining sound when it is on. How can I fix this problem?

I would also try checking out the fan. Using a can of compressed air to clean out any dust or dirt can help significantly if you have never done it before (maybe even up to 10 degrees Celsius). Just as good practice, I would give it a quick blast of air every few weeks, maybe once a month... it couldn't hurt! This also applies to desktop computers.

If you computer is still overheating, you may want to check out a guide for reapplying thermal paste to the CPU of your computer. If thermal paste is old and hardened, it won't draw away heat like it should and this heat could damage your computer and make it feel very hot.

'Also, using a computer for a long period of time may just make it hot, even if everything is working fine. Taking a break every few hours and allowing it to cool down should help the longevity of the computer. Alternatively purchasing a cooling pad for your laptop could allow you to comfortably work for longer.
