Why won't my zoom lens close?

My zoom lens stays part of the way open at all times. It won't close or open. It's stuck in this position. The camera will turn on and run then the bell rings four or five times and then I get a message on the screen saying that "Lens Error camera will shut down automatically." It then shuts down.

Jan Frank most common error on digital cameras and can be caused by numerous issues. Check on here for some ideas on what to try. Most of the time this will not totally fix the issue so you may consider replacing the lens assembly. These guides will at least get you into the vicinity of your lens. Also check this video for further help.
